We invite you to join the campaign for the release of over 120 critically ill Russian political prisoners.
Dear friends and allies,
The prisoners of the Russian regime are people who chose the truth over personal freedom and comfort. They are now paying with their lives for condemning Russia's aggression in Ukraine and for their commitment to the ideals of freedom and justice.

Among them is municipal deputy Alexei Gorinov, sentenced to seven years in a penal colony for his speech at a district council meeting in Moscow in March 2022. In his address, he condemned Russia's invasion of Ukraine and proposed honoring the memory of Ukrainian civilians killed in the conflict with a moment of silence.

At 63 years old, Gorinov, who has part of a lung missing, is being subjected to torture in a Russian prison and denied necessary medical care. Putin's regime is killing him before our very eyes.
Just as Alexei Navalny was killed in February 2024. Recently, the renowned musician and political prisoner Pavel Kushnir was tortured to death.
The global crisis of democracy is largely tied to the fact that people have lost faith in the practical application of democratic rights and freedoms. If no one makes an effort to save a dying individual imprisoned for their commitment to humanitarian values, millions around the world conclude that resisting dictatorial regimes is futile.

Russia's civil society, weakened by Putin's repressions, desperately needs proof that the struggle for democratic values is meaningful, and that those imprisoned for this fight will not be abandoned or forgotten.

It is imperative to act immediately in support of the regime’s prisoners, among whom are individuals suffering from cancer, severe tuberculosis, and other illnesses incompatible with imprisonment.
We call on activists, politicians, and all those who believe in democracy and the sanctity of human life to take daily action for the release of critically ill individuals languishing in prisons, some of whom include children!
Last winter, in December and January, we sent out more than 300 calendars for 2025 with the birth dates of Russian seriously ill political prisoners. The addressees were leading politicians and leaders of the European Union, Great Britain and the Americas, as well as cross-national authorities and non-governmental organisations (the European Commission, the European Parliament, the OSCE, the International Red Cross, the European Centre for Human Rights, the United Nations and others). Calendars were also sent to the European media.

In the accompanying letter, we asked that everything possible be done for the release of Russian political prisoners, especially the seriously ill, so that the human dimension is not overlooked during the negotiation process.
