On 1 December 2021, Ivashev's home was searched and he was detained. On 4 December, the court selected a measure of restriction in the form of a ban on certain actions. In March 2022, he was sent into custody after he came to the Investigative Committee to request permission to travel to Kirov for a scheduled surgery. Ivashev subsequently won a lawsuit against the Department of the Federal Penitentiary Service for failing to provide medical care. He was kept in the pre-trial detention centre in unsanitary conditions, which negatively affected his health condition. In December, the human rights defender was transferred to house arrest. On 24 May 2023, the court sentenced Ivashev to six years in a general regime penal colony.
