A resident of Sovetsk (Kaliningrad Oblast). In Soviet times worked as an engineer, after 1991 he owned retail grocery shops in Magnitogorsk. In Sovetsk he lived with his paralysed 96-year-old mother and looked after her alone. A search was conducted in Baryshnikov's house on 4 May 2022. On June 22nd it became known that another case was brought against him, also under the article on the dissemination of deliberately false information about the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. Later there was information that the cases were combined. Baryshnikov is suspected of having cancer. On 22 June 2023 Baryshnikov was sentenced to seven and a half years in a general regime penal colony. On August 7th, Baryshnikov's mother died. The court refused to let him attend the funeral. In September, his lawyer reported that due to the negligence of FSIN officers, Baryshnikov was taken to the hospital three hours late, and the doctors there found that his bladder was overfilled and on the verge of bursting. It turned out that the tube with an epicystostomy, which was installed in his abdomen and needs to be changed once a month, was last changed on July 31st — the doctor who did it was forced to resign and leave the country. After mass appeals to the prosecutor's office of the Kaliningrad region, Baryshnikov was allowed to resume his medical examination. At the same time, it became known that in the pre-trial detention centre his food parcels were spoilt deliberately. In January 2024, Baryshnikov's lawyer reported that he was placed in a prison hospital, where his epicystostomy was changed, and that he is going to be placed in a civil hospital for a biopsy. However, there were many problems remaining: the convict had to sleep at 15 degrees Celsius, which makes him feverish. At January 10th, the medicines appointed at the end of December were not transferred, as there was no authorization of the administration. Although the epicystostomy has been replaced, it was installed in such a way that it continues to cause inconvenience: at night Baryshnikov has to get up to change his underwear. In December 2023, Baryshnikov told his friend that some letters were not reaching him. He explained that he only received one response form from her instead of two. He also said that letters are often delayed, and he received response forms alone from Oksana Osadcha, who went out on pickets in support of a political prisoner, while the letters themselves were not given to him. In June 2024 it became known that Baryshnikov was ordered not to talk about politics with other prisoners in the colony. He also had problems with care packages "from the outside", and his card for calling from the colony was switched off for an unknown reason. In addition, Baryshnikov was called in by the disciplinary commission because he walked around the colony in shorts instead of trousers (the temperature that day was +30 degrees Celsius, and an epicystostomy should not be overheated). On 26 September 2024, Baryshnikov underwent surgery to remove an prostate adenoma: this may obviate the need for a cystostomy.
