A resident of the Moscow region. In 2013, he was sentenced to 12 years in a special regime colony for murder (part 1 of article 105 of the Criminal Code), causing harm of medium severity (part 1 of article 112 of the Criminal Code) and theft (point "c" of part 2 of article 158 of the Criminal Code). In 2012, the same court gave him a year and a half suspended sentence in another theft case. He spent ten years in prison. In May 2023 he went to the war in Ukraine and a few weeks later was captured. The former prisoner gave an interview to Ukrainian journalist Dmytro Karpenko, in which he spoke about heavy losses among the Russian military. The recording was published on Vladimir Zolkin's YouTube channel. Guguev then returned to Russia as part of a prisoner-of-war exchange. While in Russia, he gave a second interview to Dmitry Karpenko, which was published in July 2023. The former prisoner again spoke about the situation in the Russian army and the fact that soldiers returned from Ukrainian captivity who had been recruited in the colonies had not been released home for over a month. He also said that in Russia he had been offered to announce as if he had been "forced" to give an interview in Ukraine. Another former captive told the publication "Kholod" that Guguev gave the interview from Russia in a military unit in the Moscow suburbs. According to his acquaintance, the next day after that, all former captives who were in that unit had their phones taken away, were forbidden to go out for walks and receive transmissions. Guguev was sent for several days to a place previously used as a weapons room. In December 2023, Guguev was taken into custody on a case of confidential co-operation with a foreign state.
