Amet Suleymanov

On 11 March 2020, Suleymanov was detained following a search, as part of a case concerning alleged involvement in the activities of a terrorist organisation, due to suspected links to the Islamist party Hizb ut-Tahrir – a group not associated with terrorism. On 12 March, a court placed Suleymanov under house arrest. On 29 October 2021, he was sentenced to 12 years in a high-security penal colony. While in prison, his health significantly deteriorated. Amet was recommended to undergo heart valve replacement surgery. Two of Suleymanov’s medical diagnoses are included in the official list of conditions that warrant release from detention. However, a prison medical officer told the court that Suleymanov's illness was “not severe enough.
